What is the differences between Nylon 6 and Nylon 66?

Below we have outlined some of the characteristics and typical applications of the Nylons listed above, to help give you all the information you need.

Extruded Nylon 6SA – Available in Natural and Black (rod and plate)

Nylon 6 SA is a general purpose grade of Nylon for mechanical construction and maintenance applications. Nylon 6 SA Natural (rods and plates) is available as a food grade as it is FDA approved.

Characteristics:

Great combination of mechanical strength, stiffness, hardness, toughness and mechanical damping
Good sliding properties
Excellent wear resistance
Good resistance high energy radiation (gamma and X-rays)
Exhibits good electrical insulating properties
Chemical resistance capabilities

Applications:

Insulators
Conveyor rollers
Sleeve and Slide bearings
Gears and Sprockets
Buffer blocks

Cast Nylon 6 PLA - Available in Natural and Black (rod and plate)

The unmodified Cast Nylon 6 grade exhibits a lot of the characteristics similar to those of the Nylon 66 SA. However, it is has the highest strength and hardness of all of the Nylon 6 grades. Cast Nylon 6 PLA Natural (rods and plates) is available as a food grade as it is FDA approved.

Nylon 66 SA - Available in Natural and Black (rod and plate)

This material has a higher mechanical strength, stiffness, toughness than Nylon 6SA as well as better heat, wear and creep resistance, but impact strength and mechanical dampening abilities are less. Nylon 66 SA Natural (rods and plate) is available as a food grade as it is FDA approved.

Characteristics:

Superior combination of high mechanical strength and damping ability, stiffness, hardness and toughness with a high melting point
Lower water absorption rate
Higher heat deflection temperature
Excellent wear resistance
Good resistance to high energy radiation (gamma and X-rays)
Better chemical resistance to acids
