What is SRBP? SRBP (equivalent to Paxolin, IP/13 and B4) is a Synthetic Resin Bonded Paper industrial laminate, which is available in two grades: P1 and P3. The main difference between each grade is their electrical properties.
The difference between SRBP P1 and SRBP P3
The key difference between the grades is their compliance with British Standards. P1 conforms to BS EN 60893 3-4-PFCP201 and P3 conforms to BS EN 60893 3-4-PFCP206. P1 is suitable for low voltage applications in contact with the air, whereas P3 is better suited to high voltage and situations where materials will be in contact with moisture.
Material characteristics & applications of P1 (Paxolin)
SRBP P1 acts as a good, economic insulating material to be used when electrical requirements are moderate. Some of the key material characteristics of P1 (Paxolin) are:
- Low voltage insulation
- Can be easily machined
- Good economic cost
- Reasonable mechanical and impact strength
Due to its good machinability, mechanical and impact strength, SRBP P1 can be used for a wide range of engineering components. Some of the typical applications of P1 industrial laminate are:
- Electrical insulation components
- Base plates
- Side plates
- Simple jigs and fixtures

Material characteristics & applications of P3
In comparison, SRBP P3 exhibits stronger insulating properties, and can be used in conditions where it will come into contact with water. Characteristics of P3 include:
- Very good electrical insulation
- Good machinability
- Low moisture absorption
- Good mechanical strength
Typical applications of SRBP P3:
- Terminal boards
- Tag strips
- Insulated enclosures
- Mounting panels
- Insulating sleeves & bushes
- Insulating spacers
- Busbar supports
- Coil formers
