PEEK (PolyEtherEtherKetone) is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic. It has a unique combination of properties which includes a very high maximum allowable service temperature in air, high mechanical properties and excellent chemical resistance. PEEK’s aggregate of properties makes it the most popular advanced plastic material on the market.
Quadrant EPP have developed a range of specialist PEEK materials with added ingredients to provide enhanced properties compared to standard PEEK (Ketron® 1000 PEEK). Many of these specialist PEEK materials have been developed with specific applications in mind.
Ketron® GF30 PEEK (30% Glass Reinforced)
Ketron® GF30 PEEK is a 30% glass fibre reinforced grade of PEEK. It has much higher creep resistance, stiffness and dimensional stability than the standard grade of PEEK. It is ideal for structural applications that carry high static loads for long periods of time at elevated temperatures. It is less suitable, however, for application as sliding parts because the glass fibres can abrade the mating service.
Ketron® CA30 PEEK (30% Carbon Fibre-Reinforced)
Ketron® CA30 PEEK is a 30% carbon fibre reinforced grade of PEEK. Compared to standard, unreinforced PEEK, the carbon fibres in CA30 PEEK considerably reduce thermal expansion and provide 3.5 times higher thermal conductivity. This dissipates heat from the bearing surface faster, improving bearing life and pressure-velocity capabilities. Furthermore, compared to GF30 PEEK, CA30 PEEK has even higher stiffness, mechanical strength and creep resistance.
Ketron® HPV PEEK (Bearing Grade)
Ketron® HPV PEEK involves the addition of carbon fibres, PTFE and Graphite to virgin PEEK, which results in a “bearing grade” of PEEK. Ketron® HPV PEEK’s tribological properties of low friction, long wear and high pressure-velocity capabilities make this grade of PEEK especially suited for wear and friction applications.
