Material suitable for Food and Beverage Industry?

In many areas of industry, plastics play a significant role in improving the efficiency and competitive standing of customer applications. Due to stringent regulations, the food and beverage sector, the need to provide customers with high –performance engineering plastics has arisen. Therefore, specific materials are developed for food contact. We work very closely with our supplier, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials to provide our customers the right material, approved by the FDA for materials suitable for food and beverage applications. As per the European standards, the safety of food is evaluated and approved by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Some of the FDA approved materials are as follows:

TIVAR® 1000

Conveyor stars made of TIVAR 1000 meet all criteria for applications in filling lines. TIVAR 1000 offers excellent sliding properties and high wear resistance. Its impact strength protects bottles/cans and conveyor lines. A very good chemical resistance extends its lifetime and reduces downtimes.

It can also be used for filling, transportation and packaging lines from the excellent sliding and wear properties. Download data sheet here to find out more.

Ertalyte TX – Belt Rollers for Bakery Products

In this application, before the bakery products are baked, they are transported and positioned by belt transportation systems at high speeds (15 m/min, up to 40 m/min in other systems). These systems can create varying space between the separate products, or help to orient them. As the products can be fairly small, the transition between one belt and the next needs to be as smooth as possible, therefore the belt roller at the end should have the smallest possible diameter. The goal is to prevent foodstuff falling down between two belts.

Previously, this process was designed as a hollow steel shaft, which used to rotate on needle bearings. For the belt rollers used in bakery products Ertalyte TX is a material that is used as:

  • Good chemical resistance against cleaning agents
  • Good dimensional stability
  • Very low wear Low coefficient of friction High PV values (belt speed varies from15 to 40 m/min)
  • FDA compliant
  • Low noise

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

HDPE is the most common household plastic used. We come across HDPE in our day to day lives, from plastic bottles in the juice aisle and the milk case. HDPE is also used in butter containers, cereal box liners, and in large food buckets, such as those that supply school cafeterias and restaurants. HDPE resin produces plastic that is corrosion-resistant and absorbs little moisture, making it well-suited for storing beverages.

Other food approved material include:

  • Tivar PE1000, PE500, PE300
  • Tivar Ceram P, Tivar H.O.T.
  • Ertacetal Acetal C
  • Ketron PEEK
  • Ertalon Nylon 6
  • Ertalon Nylon 66
  • Nylatron MC901
