Types of Polyamide Nylon and Their Applications
At Ai Engineering Plastics, the most available grades used are Nylon 6 and Nylon 66. It is also available in a range of other grades including nylon 11, 12 and 46. These names come from the length of their polymeric chains of carbon atoms in the diamine as well as the number of carbon atoms in the acid. Typical applications include:
- Toothbrushes
- Wear pads
- Wheels
- Gloves
- Guitar strings and pics
- Tennis racket strings
- Medical implants
- Electrical connectors
- Fishing line
- Tents
- Gears
Nylon in Construction
In construction, nylon is used for a wide range of applications. It can also be moulded into a range of sheets and films. It is mainly used in sheets ods, tubes, pipes, screws, bolts safety nets, plumbing fittings and more. Custom cast nylon is used for applications such as crane pads, industrial industrial hammer heads and more.
Nylon for Prototype Development on CNC Machines, 3D Printers, & Injection Molding Machines
Nylon can be easily melted into filaments (useful for 3D printing), fibres (useful for fabrics), films (useful for packaging), and sheet stock (useful for CNC machine manufacturing).
Nylon in Electrical and Maintenance
Nylon (nylon 6) is a general purpose grade which is widely used for mechanical construction and maintenance. This is due to its optimal combination of mechanical strength, stiffness and mechanical damping properties together with a good electrical insulating ability. Applications where nylon 6 is used include:
- Circuit insulation boards
- Switchgear
- Rotor slot wedges
- Gears
- Wear strips & Chain guards
- Machine guards
- Seals
- Electronic test equipment
- Replacement components
- Jigs & Fixtures
Nylatrack polyamide track plates
High ground pressure of the vehicle usually causes damage to the ground. However, in such cases, ground pressure can be reduced by using plastic track plates instead of the traditional steel plates. Our suppliers, Mitsubishi Chemical Advanced Materials, produce MCAM nylatrack plates that weigh less than 80% of comparable steel plates in the industry. The pressure on the soil is much lower so that vehicles equipped with Nylatrack plates can even work on soft ground or pavement with little to no adverse effects. In addition to the reduced weight, Nylatrack plates help in noise reduction, absorbs equipment vibration and muffles noise of the undercarriage.
