Antistatic Plastic

Ai Engineering Plastics and Laminates has an exclusive partnership with SciCron Technologies, spanning over 15 years, which enables us to supply SciCron antistatic (ESD) sheets and films to the UK market.

Based in Amarillo, Texas, SciCron Technologies specialises in applying high quality, high performance coatings to plastics. They apply advanced technology, clear, antistatic and static dissipative coatings to polycarbonate, acrylic, and other plastic sheet products. These products are used to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to charge-sensitive devices, to control contamination in ultra-clean environments, and are also used in equipment and industrial applications for dust control and explosion prevention.

Here at Ai Engineering Plastics and Laminates we sell SciCron’s antistatic acrylic AC-300™, polycarbonate PC-350™ and antistatic film products.

Acrylic AC-300

AC-300™ is a premium quality acrylic sheet, coated with SciCron Technologies clear C-300™ static dissipative coating. This coating prevents charge generation on the sheet surfaces and thereby controls particulate attraction and prevents electrostatic discharge (ESD).

Material Characteristics

  • Anti-static
  • Light-weight
  • Excellent optical properties
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Good surface hardness
  • Cannot be tribocharged when properly grounded
  • Rapid static dissipation without arcing
  • Humidity independent static charge control

Applications

AC-300™ is suitable for use in the semi-conductor, electronic, micro-manufacturing, and mining industries. Typical applications include; covers, windows, doors, and access panels for electronic equipment, machines and instruments; fabricated desiccators, cabinets, and boxes; transparent room partitions and pass-thru modules; process equipment enclosures; and mini-environment glazing panels. The product also has many general industrial uses, including protection for static charge sensitive manufacturing devices and control of spark discharge in explosive environments.

Polycarbonate PC-350

PC-350™ is a premium quality polycarbonate sheet, coated with SciCron Technologies clear C-350™ static dissipative coating. Like C-300™, this coating prevents charge generation on the sheet surfaces and thereby controls particulate attraction and prevents electrostatic discharge (ESD).

Material Characteristics

  • Bending quality
  • Anti-static
  • Light-weight
  • Excellent clarity
  • Very good chemical resistance
  • High impact resistance + exceptional shatter resistance
  • Cannot be tribocharged when properly grounded
  • Rapid static dissipation without arcing
  • Humidity independent static charge control

Applications

PC-350™ is suitable for use in the semi-conductor, electronic, micro-manufacturing, and mining industries. Typical applications include contoured panels and fabricated items which require heat bending, such as; guards, covers, windows, doors, and access panels for electronic equipment, keypads, assembly machines and instruments; conveyor line covers and shields; and equipment enclosures. Like AC-300™, it also has many general industrial uses, including protection for static charge sensitive manufacturing devices and control of spark discharge in explosive environments.

Antistatic Films

TMF-300™ Check Film

TMF-300™ Check Film is a clear film product used to control static electricity. It is a polyester film surfaced with SciCron Technologies C-300™ static dissipative coating and is highly tensile with high tear strength.

It is ideal for use as a material for quality control templates to check part placement in pc board manufacturing operations. The surface of the film can be printed with laser printer which allows reproduction of circuit or component diagrams and instructions for testing and assembly procedures. Other uses include: membrane switch components, packaging of sensitive electronic parts and overlays to protect bar codes.

ABF-300™ ESD Control Film

ABF-300™ ESD Control Film is a clear, adhesive-backed film product designed to control static electricity for a wide range of end uses. Like TMF-300™ Check Film, it is a polyester film surfaced with SciCron Technologies C-300™ static dissipative coating and is highly tensile with high tear strength.

It is ideally suited for application to glass cleanroom glazing to prevent surface charge generation. Other uses include application to: machine covers and enclosures; work station and wall panel surfaces; various insulative surfaces like cabinets, boxes, drawers, and melamine laminates; CRT screens; die cut parts for OEM made devices and assemblies; and plastic panels and parts which are in explosive and ESD sensitive areas.

Trim Fluid

Trim Fluid™ is a general purpose, solvent based, static dissipative coating liquid which can be used on various plastic materials to make the surface of the plastic electro-conductive in the static dissipative range of surface resistivities. It is normally used as a touch-up coating on cut edges and machined surfaces of SciCron Technologies static dissipative sheet products. Trim Fluid prevents static charge build-up on these edges and surfaces and it provides electrical continuity across the cut or machined area. It can also provide continuity from front to back surfaces of a SciCron Technologies sheet product by forming an electro-conductive bridge across the edge of the sheet. Trim Fluid is also used on glue lines in items fabricated from SciCron Technologies sheets to provide electrical continuity across the glued joints.
